About Elsa Hawkswell
Hello! I’m Elsa, a cinematographer from Sydney, Australia. My parents are both creatives; my mum is a graphic designer, and my dad is a photographer and chef. Growing up, I would watch movies with my dad on Friday nights, and I fell in love with film. My passion grew as a teenager and inspired me to go to SAE University College to study a Bachelor of Film Production. When I first enrolled, I had no idea how I wanted to be in the industry.
For my first student short film, I was unsure which role to go for and decided on Director of Photography. I had never taken on such a big role before, and I pushed myself to try something outside of my comfort zone. During this film, I fell in love with cinematography and bringing scripts to life.
Over the last 2 years, I have been telling and bringing stories to life through cinematography and filmmaking. I love working on new and challenging projects. From small crews to large-scale projects.
Stanley Kubrick said, “If it can be written or thought, it can be filmed” I love the idea of film being all-encompassing, and I hope to inspire audiences to create and embellish their own stories through film.
